Sally Chinnis is a planner, urban designer, space analyst, and a principal with the planning team. Her projects span strategic planning, programming, and physical planning for university campuses and individual schools, colleges, and administrative units. Over nearly a decade, she has helped institutions including Carnegie Mellon University, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill create compelling campus adjacencies and dynamic mixed use precincts, enhance the student and residential experience, expand open space networks, and develop phased implementation plans to realize their vision.

Jon Eaton

Jon Eaton is a principal and the firm’s Director of IT. He is an expert in database administration and software integration. Throughout his career, Jon has accelerated the adoption of AEC software tools, including Deltek Vision, Newforma, Autodesk products, and Axomic Open Asset Image Library. He has deployed four corporate intranets and assisted in the development of multiple database platforms and custom web applications. Jon encourages a broader understanding of technology throughout the firm and strives to develop a culture of change with everyone he works with, and has lectured on change management in the AEC industry at national conferences.

Joel is the 2019 President of AIA Maryland and is active on neighborhood boards and in coaching youth sports.

Hans Graf

Hans Graf is an associate principal with more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of architecture, from conceptual design through construction documents and administration. He has dedicated his career to the design of student life buildings, with a particular focus on residence halls that elevate the living-learning experience. Hans’ body of work includes the Emory University Freshman Housing Village and Oxford Road Building, University of Virginia’s Alderman Road Housing, Towson University’s West Village Housing, Clemson University’s Douthit Hills Housing and HUB Bookstore, Dining, and Student Center. He has also worked on housing master plans for Purdue University, University of Pittsburgh, and Denison University, and is currently designing a new student housing project at Ringling College of Art and Design.

Adam Gross

Adam Gross is a principal of Ayers Saint Gross with more than 35 years of experience in planning and architectural design. He provides the broad design direction for the firm and works in close collaboration with many of the firm’s longstanding clients. In addition, he has written and lectured extensively on urban design, collegiate architecture, and master planning. He has taught at several architectural schools, most recently as the Fay Jones Chair in Architecture at the University of Arkansas and the Kea Distinguished Professor of Architecture at the University of Maryland. Adam was a visiting scholar at The American Academy in Rome in 2014.

Kevin Johnson is a principal and senior design architect with more than 20 years of broad project experience ranging from academic and research science buildings, healthcare, residential, commercial, and planning projects. As the lead designer on his projects, he has a collaborative process that is guided by clear intent and decision-making. He is a firm believer that effective communication is grounded in detailed visuals in all forms of media – blocking, stacking, massing diagrams, precedent images, sketches, computer models, physical models, and others. Recently, he has designed projects at Washington University in St. Louis, Kent State University, Howard Community College, and the Maryland School for the Blind.

Linnea Kessler-Gowell is a principal with more than 19 years of experience as an interior designer for higher education and multifamily projects with significant experience on interior renovations, including detailed furniture, fixtures, and equipment packages. Bringing valuable knowledge from work on the client side, she understands how to best design vibrant and integrated interior environments for flexible learning and living, keeping maintenance and costs in mind. In 2019, she won the Lex Schwartz Collaboration Award, which recognizes one employee a year who personifies collaboration and leadership.
