The Washington Research Library Consortium provides off-site storage facilities for nine university systems, providing shared resources and cost savings for these institutions to keep a vast collection of books and documents. The 52,000 SF facility consists of three modules that hold 2,000,000 volumes and 50,000 archival boxes. Ayers Saint Gross designed Module II which holds a mix of collections and archives within 12,400 SF. The facility was designed to maintain a temperature of 60 degrees with 40% relative humidity, which helps preserve the longevity of the materials. Equipped with high bay shelving, each row has motion sensor lighting systems to save on energy costs.
