This area near downtown Indianapolis, adjacent to the campus of IUPUI and major medical centers, is poised to become a bustling innovation district. In a city known for implementing bold ideas, the 16 Tech community will stimulate job-creating ideas and research. This high-profile, mixed-use innovation district will entice the target sectors of biosciences, software, sports, logistics, and advanced manufacturing to cluster and grow. The vision calls for adaptive reuse and new construction centered around a main plaza and park space, a pedestrian-friendly street network, the activation of the riverfront with a new park, and the optimization of connections into the district. Ayers Saint Gross also developed a set of design guidelines for the district, which establish architectural and landscape standards for new streets and buildings.
The City-County Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve $75 million in bonds for infrastructure improvements to get the 16 Tech development off the ground.
