On the edge of downtown Indianapolis, bordered by a creek, a river, and trails, this 70-acre underutilized land was poised to be a booming innovation district. In a city known for implementing bold ideas, the plan for 16Tech is designed to stimulate ideas and research, and produce opportunities and jobs. This high-profile, mixed-use innovation district will entice the target sectors of science, software, sports, logistics, and advanced manufacturing. The vision calls for adaptive re-use and new construction cen¬tered around a main plaza and park space, a pedestrian-friendly street network. It activates the riverfront with a new park, and maximizes connections into the district.
The City-County Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve $75 million in bonds for infrastructure improvements to get the 16 Tech development off the ground.
