A design commission transforms existing structures on an 11-acre formerly used coal site into a cultural district in the Pudong city center. The design for the museum comes to life with operable wood screens with a media inlay projecting light shows and images at night. The main performance and event space is placed above the existing coal building is column-free, and can be reconfigured to host events. The landscape is defined by extending outward the structural grids of the existing buildings. The landscape design provides a series of defined “outdoor rooms” for sculpture and gathering.
