Environmental Campus Wayfinding

College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina

VIEW PROJECT STATS
Completion: 2011
Size: 800 acres

This wayfinding and signage system rests lightly on the land to respect its natural surroundings, while enhancing the experience of walking through an unspoiled landscape. It was developed for a four-mile nature trail as part of a master plan for future development on the 800-acre property. Trail markers are emblazoned with symbols representative of the different landscapes to supply visitors with visual cues to their whereabouts. Directional signs indicate the location, orientation and mileage of the primary trails to help guests navigate the looping paths. Interpretive sign panels communicate the history, culture and ecology of the site.
