Cafeteria Renovation

Baltimore Design School
Bold colors and original art transform a 1950s cafeteria into an inspiring student space.
Feature wall at middle school cafeteria
Location
Baltimore, MD
Completion
2011

Part of a pro bono overhaul of the Baltimore Design School by local design firms, this vibrant cafeteria renovation literally creates food for thought in the prominent space where students gather and interact on a daily basis. With just a few weeks to design and install the solution, the team approached the project through low-cost, low-tech enhancements to inspire the school’s creative-minded students. Typographic statements stenciled onto walls, framed posters, and original ink drawings illustrate the possibilities of color, imagery, and typography. Set against a backdrop of the school’s teal and orange colors, the posters and illustrations relate food to the art and science of design.
