Ayers Saint Gross has won an Exceptional Design Award from Fairfax County, Virginia, for the year-old Arts and Design Building at George Mason University. Administered by the Fairfax Department of Planning and Zoning in cooperation with its Architectural Review Board and the Northern Virginia Chapter of the AIA, the county’s awards program aims to raise public awareness of superior planning and design projects.
Jurors lauded the Arts and Design Building’s architecture for inspiring the creation of art. “This exceptional building design…exemplifies a fresh composition with an interesting interplay of materials,” they said. “[It] is aesthetically clean and demonstrates good functionality with an elegant use of standard features and materials.”
